MANDARIN CHINESE

Mandarin Chinese instruction begins in kindergarten at Scandia Elementary and continues through sixth grade. Students meet with the Chinese instructor for thirty minutes twice a week. Classroom teachers are also in the Chinese class with their students. Instruction is in a partial immersion format with both Chinese and English being spoken during the class period. In the first few months of school students are learning ways to greet each other, names of animals, counting, pronouns, and common phrases. Learning another language allows students to not only understand how another language is developed but it assists in gaining an understanding of another culture.
